5 Surprising Benefits of Walking Therapy from an STL Therapist

Offering park treatment is one of the best aspects of our office. Both the individual and the therapist are experiencing therapy in a very distinct way. It occasionally provides more room for lengthy, scary talks. Particularly those that might begin with "I've never told anyone this before, but...." Sometimes it's just one of many methods to take advantage of a gorgeous day.

Park treatment, also referred to as walk-and-talk therapy, may appear to have some clear advantages. You get to experience the benefits of Vitamin D by being outside in the fresh air and, typically, in the sunlight. Even though it has little effect, it still makes your body move. Most people are aware that, for some people, talking while seated side by side can be more comfortable than sitting across from someone in a workplace setting. These statements about park treatment are all accurate.

A few surprising benefits of walking therapy from a St. Louis, Mo Therapist. They’re pretty cool!

1.) You can experience an increase in self-esteem.

When I was investigating walking therapy and what I might not know about it, this was one of the first things I discovered as an advantage. It hit me fairly hard for some reason, perhaps because raising one's self-esteem can occasionally be a difficult process that requires perseverance and hard effort. “What? from simply strolling next to someone else?  St Louis therapy   Even in the first or second encounter with a new acquaintance and in a business capacity? Yes! It comes out that keeping up with someone not only controls your body (heart rate, blood pressure), but it also has the potential to rewire your brain and boost your sense of self-worth. And to be completely honest, I believe that every now and then we could all use a lift in that area. So even if you decide not to come

2. ) It encourages mindfulness.

Okay, so I'm aware that the word "mindfulness" is used by some individuals (what is mindfulness? The Mayo Clinic has more information available here.) thinking, "Oh my goodness, more of THAT?! Can't we already discover something new?" You are heard. I can see you. I've actually "been" you. But once you open up just enough to lean in, here's the thing about awareness.

You comprehend its functions. It truly helps you to be more relaxed, and patient, keep things in context, stop getting worked up, and feel happier, and more content than you would otherwise.

The challenging aspect of awareness is that it requires some initial exercise. It's not like (sadly) you opt to start doing it and then lose it because you're skilled at it. Your intellect, your body, and your goals all need to be adjusted. And doing that is extremely difficult, particularly as an adult. Because we don't really learn new things as adults very often, we aren't used to learning something new.

Setting yourself up for success is thus one of the secrets there. And being outside is one method to do that. The environment you experience "outside" helps you calm down, gain perspective, feel awe and appreciation, among a plethora of other things.

3) Nature and movement help stimulate a more relaxed state, making it much easier to talk and share.

"Am I really ready to discuss this? What if they advise me to make drastic changes in order to feel better? That is something I cannot do.

Or perhaps after a few meetings they are starting to  St Louis therapist feel at ease but haven't quite gotten to the portion they want to discuss but find difficult or intimidating to say aloud.

So many of those issues can be eased with walking exercises. As a therapist, it can be amazing to observe a client's behavior improve during a park therapy appointment. The way you ponder about what you're about to say may become less concentrated as your silence and body language become more relaxed. The idea is that moving while outside, particularly in a gorgeous environment, induces a more natural state of relaxation that can have a really positive effect on therapy.

4) Both literally and figuratively, clients experience a sense of “moving forward” on their issues. Walking Therapy also can encourage clients to approach their challenges with a greater sense of power and influence over them.

There is a strong link between the psyche and the body. So true. So let's make the most of it! By merely walking, a patient who decides to partake in park treatment can reap the rewards of brain rewiring! It can alter your viewpoint on an issue or even how you perceive your capacity to address or overcome it. You might sense more competence. Your mental perspective on yourself and your task has changed. You frequently experience an increase in confidence while seeing a decline in the amount of worry it causes.

5) It promotes clearer thought processes and open-minded brainstorming abilities

Okay, so perhaps this is a 4b rather than a 5. It seems to complement the aforementioned at the very least.

The good news is that strolling and being outside encourage your brain to function differently. And because the way your brain functions differs from that of others, you may be able to come up with completely original ideas just by moving!

It's almost like a different take on the phrase "sleep on it," which is also derived from neurobiology and is very real.
